Looks like Christmas at the Palace won’t be on the cards for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, according to a report.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have already indicated that they’d be “happy to accept” an invitation to spend the holidays with the royal family, but it seems as though that sentiment is not reciprocated.
The Sussexes skipped out on merry festivities with the royal family last year, and according to a royal source, they likely won’t be welcome this year.
A source has told The Telegraph that the coupe is “highly unlikely” to turn down the chance to spend the festive season with King Charles.
The insider added that despite “friends of the Sussexes” saying the couple would be open to Christmas at Sandringham to “change the state of play,” it appears as though not all royals are on board.
Another source told the Daily Mail that senior members of the royal family, including Prince William, will not want Meghan and Harry there at Christmas.
“It seems as if they are really doubling down on their reconciliation strategy,” a source told the outlet.
The insider added that it was “bizarre” for the Sussexes to suggest they could just “waltz back in and allow bygones to be bygones if only someone would be good enough to invite them.”
“Which begs the question, why now?” the insider added. “Could it be that they have realized moaning about how awful being a member of the royal family is, isn’t such a great strategy after all?”
The Post has reached out to Buckingham Palace for comment.
Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, now have no official place to stay in the UK after the King served them an eviction notice from their former royal residence, Frogmore Cottage.
What’s more, the couple will now have to fork out additional spending on their security when visiting Britain.
While Christmas in the UK may not be on the cards for the Sussexes just yet, the couple have had a breakthrough in their royal rift after Harry sensationally picked up the phone to call his father to wish him a happy birthday last week.
The pair called the King on Nov. 14 to wish him a happy birthday over the phone — marking the first time the two camps have spoken in over six months.
The monarch reportedly received a pre-recorded video of his grandchildren, Prince Archie, 4, and Princess Lilibet, 2, in which they sing “Happy Birthday” to the monarch.
It seems as though Harry hopes the phone call serves as a stepping stone for the pair’s long-overdue reconciliation.
