Emerging from Melbourne’s vibrant alt-rock scene, ReeToxA is the musical alias of Jason McKee, a songwriter whose story is as compelling as his sound. Raised in the rough-edged suburbs of 1990s Frankston, McKee’s early years were shaped by the grunge and alternative anthems of the decade, sparking a lifelong love for songwriting. But life, as it often does, took him down other roads.
Years later, following the loss of his mother during a prison stint, McKee found himself drawn back to music as a form of catharsis. The song “Bobbie”, written in her memory, became the emotional seed from which ReeToxA was born, a project grounded in honesty, recovery, and rebirth. Taking on the moniker he’d earned in his AA days, McKee began crafting a sound that fuses the emotional intensity of Pearl Jam and Radiohead with the modern candor of Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan, all filtered through a distinctly Australian lens.

To bring his vision to life, McKee enlisted ARIA-nominated producer Simon Moro, Grammy-nominated engineer Joe Carra, and a powerhouse lineup featuring Pete Marin (drums), James Ryan(guitar), Kit Riley (bass), and Phil Turcio (piano). The result was Pines Salad — Reetoxa’s debut album, released in March 2025. Its title, a cheeky nod to Frankston slang for a bag of weed, hints at the record’s grounded, self-aware spirit.
Each track on Pines Salad pulses with McKee’s unfiltered lyricism and outsider charm, a collection of songs that feel both lived-in and liberating. With a growing fanbase, plans for new releases, and a first wave of live shows on the horizon, ReeToxA is stepping firmly into the spotlight, proof that redemption can sound this good.
