Robert Saleh’s mess to fix

Grading the Jets’ loss to the Raiders on Sunday:

Offense

The Jets moved the ball for most of the night, but failed to reach the end zone.

They had 365 total yards but came away with just four field goals.

The offense committed seven penalties, many of them critical. This unit looked good at times, but not when it got close to the end zone.

QB Zach Wilson (23 of 36, 263 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 68.6 rating, 4 rushes, 54 yards) was not bad but he chose a terrible time to throw an interception.

The Jets ran for 108 yards but 54 of those came on quarterback scrambles.

RB Breece Hall (13 rushes, 28 yards) had no room to run.

Grade: D

Defense

The defense was good enough to win the game again, allowing just 16 points.

But it has become clear this defense needs to be all-world for the Jets to win and it was not that.

The unit gave up a 40-yard run to Josh Jacobs (27 rushes, 116 yards, 1 fumble) that set up the lone touchdown of the game.

QB Aidan O’Connell (16 of 27, 153 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 72 rating) did not look overwhelmed by the Jets’ defense, which sacked him three times. Jordan Whitehead had an interception and Jamien Sherwood forced a fumble.

Grade: B

Special teams

Greg Zuerlein might be the Jets’ MVP.

He made all four of his field goals on Sunday night.

Right now, he is the only thing you can count on when it comes to scoring.

Punter Thomas Morstead had two touchbacks and the Jets allowed a 32-yard punt return by DeAndre Carter.

Grade: C+

Coaching

I don’t think the penalties are on Robert Saleh but at some point he has to figure out how to spark his offense and get it into the end zone.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett had a better game plan than last week but his offense is failing to reach the end zone and that is a big mark against him.

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich continues to have his unit playing well.

Grade: D
