The Jets finally made a quarterback change and benched Zach Wilson, but that doesn’t make their quest to snap a 12-year playoff drought any easier.
They’re still 4-6. They’ve still lost three games in a row. They’ve still managed just two touchdowns since Week 8 against the Giants.
But with 29-year-old Tim Boyle as their signal-caller, the Jets will aim to upset the Dolphins in a Black Friday game at MetLife Stadium.
Miami, featuring Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill and Jalen Waddle, leads the NFL in yards per game (434.0) and sits second in points per game (30.5), but in their victory against the Raiders last week, its defense forced three turnovers. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who missed the first seven games of 2023 while recovering from a knee injury, snagged two of the Dolphins’ picks.
So while their offense will be difficult for the Jets’ defense to stop after allowing 32 points to the Bills on Sunday, they might struggle to score points against defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s unit, too. The Jets — players, coaches, seemingly everyone around the locker room — have supported Boyle throughout the week, but he’s 0-3 as a starter and has a 3:9 touchdown-to-interception ratio across 18 appearances.
