The Chiefs had a blank space in the win column on Christmas.
After Kansas City got stunned, losing 20-14 at home in a game in which they entered as double-digit favorites against the Raiders, CBS Sports cameras captured Taylor Swift consoling Brittany Mahomes.
Swift is dating star Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, while Mahomes is the wife and childhood sweetheart of the league’s reigning MVP, Patrick Mahomes.
Earlier in the game, CBS had shown Kelce slamming his helmet in frustration as Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid attempted to calm him down on the Chiefs’ sidelines.
Mahomes threw for just 5.3 yards per attempt on Monday, as Kelce caught five balls for 44 yards.
Although CBS’ lead NFL color commentator Tony Romo has now twice referred to Swift as Kelce’s wife, they are still in the dating phase of their relationship.
Swift and Kelce were first rumored as a couple in September, and she has since become a fixture at Chiefs games, attending a majority of them since the beginning of October.
For his part, Kelce flew to Argentina during the Chiefs’ bye week in November to catch one of the shows at the beginning of the international leg of Swift’s “Eras” tour.
Swift and Brittany Mahomes have seemingly developed a close friendships, and in happier game days the two even had a secret handshake to celebrate successful Chiefs moments.
The friendship has even withstood an endorsement deal the Mahomes family inked with SKIMS, the athleisure brand owned by Kim Kardashian, who is currently feuding with Swift (in fairness, it’s possible the campaign was agreed to before Swift entered the picture with Kelce).
With the loss to the Raiders, the Chiefs fell to 9-6; their final two games are home against the Bengals and on the road versus the Chargers.
