The Denzel Washington-led “The Equalizer 3” made its debut in the top slot at the box office Friday.
The third, and purportedly last, take in the action series took in $13.1 million on its opening day — including $3.8 million in Thursday previews.
Variety said the receipts were boosted by showtimes in premium large format auditoriums, and the flick is on track for the second-highest Labor Day weekend opening in history
The Post praised the movie stating that unlike the first two “dark” and “pathologically unpleasant” films, the third “lives up to the ever-deepening talent of its leading man.”
The summer’s biggest blockbuster, “Barbie,” continued to pull in audience, netting $2.5 million Friday. The celebration in pink has taken in $1.35 billion worldwide.
Last week’s top draw, “Gran Turismo,” took third place with $1.56 million.
Superhero flick “Blue Beetle” remained among the top draws in its third week, with $1.52 million in receipts.
“Oppenheimer” also continued to pull in audiences, with $1.32 million in sales.
