This was a hideous performance

Grading the Jets’ 34-13 loss to the Dolphins on Friday:

Offense

New quarterback, same results.

The offense put up 159 yards and scored one touchdown as Tim Boyle (27 of 38 for 179 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs, 67.8 QB rating) looked ineffective in his first start replacing Zach Wilson.

The Jets failed to convert on their first eight third-down tries and punted on their first five possessions before giving up an unbelievable 99-yard interception return.

The Jets averaged 2.9 yards per play and managed just 29 yards rushing.

The offensive line gave up seven sacks.

It was all terrible.

Grade: F

Defense

It is hard not to feel bad for the defense at this point.

They are being asked to do so much and it looks like they are wearing down.

The Dolphins went 11-for-16 on third down and QB Tua Tagovailoa (21 of 30 for 243 yards, one TD, two INT, 77.5 QB rating) was not great but kept the chains moving.

WR Jaylen Waddle (eight receptions, 114 yards) and WR Tyreek Hill (nine receptions, 102 yards, 1 TD) seemed to always come up with crucial catches when the Dolphins needed them.

The Dolphins had 395 total yards.

CB Brandin Echols got a pick-six before halftime and D.J. Reed came up with another one but it was not enough to stop Miami.

Grade: C

Special teams

The usually reliable Greg Zuerlein missed an extra point.

Other than that, it was a quiet day for the special teams.

Punter Thomas Morstead booted three of his six punts inside the 20-yard line.

The Jets did a good job in coverage and did not get many chances in the return game.

Grade: C

Coaching

This was a hideous performance by the Jets.

Yes, they are down a lot of players on offense but it is on the coaches to find some answers.

The offense does not look functional at the moment.

Give Robert Saleh credit for benching Allen Lazard and Zach Wilson, but he needs to keep searching.

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett has given no reason to believe in him.

Grade: F
