Travis Kelce surprised himself with how well he plays when Taylor Swift is in attendance at his games.
The star Chiefs tight end responded to the viral graphic CBS shared on the broadcast during Sunday’s game against the Chargers, which noted he averaged significantly fewer yards in games the singer was not present for.
“How could I not be aware of this?” Travis joked when his brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, brought up the “Swift stat” during the latest installment of their “New Heights” podcast.
“When T. Swift is at the game you’re averaging 99 yards and when you’re left with only your friends and remaining family there you are at 46.5 yards a game,” Jason said.
“As it says in the edit or whatever it is, ‘Left to his own devices,’” Travis quipped.
“Well put. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around that sentence.”
That’s when Jason brought up Travis’ performance in Sunday’s 31-17 win over the Chargers.
Kelce caught 12 passes for 179 yards and scored a touchdown with 15 seconds left in the first half as Swift cheered on in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium.
“Not only is social media noticing it, but it appears that Big Red is noticing it because he weighed in,” Jason said, referring to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.
“In his postgame press conference he was asked about your big game and his response was, ‘Kelce keeps getting better with time. Taylor can stay around all she wants.’”
Travis was thrilled to have Reid’s approval.
“What a guy,” he said. “Listen, when you’re getting Big Red’s approval and blessings you know you’re doing something right. Shoutout to Chiefs Kingdom.”
Swift attended her fourth Chiefs game of the season on Sunday, when she was seen cheering with Kelce’s friends and family in his private suite — which included a special handshake with Brittany Mahomes.
The All-Pro tight end and the 12-time Grammy winner were seen holding hands as they exited Arrowhead Stadium together.
The couple — who have dominated headlines since they were first linked in September — reportedly enjoyed an afterparty at Kelce’s newly purchased Kansas City mansion.
Kelce appeared to make the first move publicly, when he revealed on his “New Heights” podcast that he failed to meet Swift while at her Eras Tour show in Kansas City in July.
It’s unclear if Swift will make the trip to Denver when the Chiefs visit the Broncos on Oct. 29.
