Stop blaming Taylor Swift says Travis Kelce’s trainer.
With some media pundits blaming Swift for Kelce’s struggles, his trainer, Andrew Spruill, told the Palm Beach Post that’s “ludicrous” and instead points to the star tight end’s health as the culprit.
“He started off hurt and missed game one,’’ Spruill said. “Two days before the game, he hyperextended his knee at practice.”
Kelce was feared to miss the entre season after his hyperextened knee frightened the team and fans of the league alike, but they were able to take a sigh of relief when he only missed the Week 1 loss to the Lions.
“He’s been as healthy as you can be for an NFL player for his career,” Spruill said. “Rookie year he missed but hadn’t missed a game until this year.
“That, plus a new offense, and receivers they have, it hasn’t come together as it was expected to. It definitely put a damper on his typical production.’’
Kelce is still projected to tally 103 receptions for 1,106 yards and six touchdowns as quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ favorite target, but he hasn’t been the same difference-maker as years past.
The 34-year-old hasn’t cleared 100 yards since Oct. 22, and has scored just once in his last eight games.
He’s tallied just 72 receiving yards over his last two games.
Regardless of how this year ends in Kansas City, expect Kelce to be in the lab working this offseason while managing his relationship with Swift.
“A lot of guys like him are so good, but when they’re training, they’re still in the, ‘I-don’t-know-anything’’ mode,’’ Spruill said. “They never think they already know it all. As good as he is, guys like him are still in the gym, listening, taking notes and getting coached. Being so coachable, on top of their athletic ability, it’s a perfect recipe for great players.’’
