A Notre Dame fan got his 15 seconds of fame by running up to USC quarterback Caleb Williams to troll him after the Fighting Irish’s 48-20 win last weekend.
Williams had his retort ready Wednesday.
“Everybody wants to be in these two size 12 and a half shoes right here,” Williams said. “I’m not worried about some kid running on the field that doesn’t have anything really associated to Notre Dame other than possibly they’re family going there or him going there himself.
“Got a lot of guys over here that I’ve got to lead. So some opinion of a sheep, lions don’t worry about that. So, keep moving on, keep fighting. Fight on.”
USC’s national title hopes all but ended last Saturday night when the then-undefeated Trojans suffered a thorough beatdown at the hands of Notre Dame.
Williams, the reigning Heisman winner, did not play well.
He completed 23 of 37 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and also tossed three interceptions.
He rushed 13 times for minus 8 yards.
It’s possible that poor game, plus USC’s remaining tough schedule, could hurt his chances to repeat as Heisman winner.
As Williams left the field, a Notre Dame fan ran up to Williams with his phone recording and screamed: “Let me see those nails, bro.”
Williams had “F–k ND” painted onto his nails before last year’s game, although it’s not the only time he has painted his nails before a game.
No. 18 USC aims to rebound this Saturday when it hosts No. 14 Utah.
“It’s my first bad game in college, I’d say,” Williams said. “You endure, you conquer and keep going. You don’t hang your head in the moment. You throw three (interceptions) as a QB and your team goes out and loses a big rivalry game, three dumb (interceptions), you go out there lose in a rivalry game, you obviously have something you’re feeling from it.”
