Wizards’ Kyle Kuzma blasts Nike for ‘ruining the nostalgia of jerseys’

Kyle Kuzma seems to be among those that are experiencing jersey fatigue.

The Wizards forward took to social media to chide Nike for “ruining the nostalgia of jerseys” with its City Edition line after the Los Angeles Clippers’ sets were leaked on X.

“Nike is ruining the nostalgia of jerseys, every year it’s a new jersey and what gets lost is brand identity,” Kuzma said in his post.

The City Edition jerseys have veered far away from a team’s traditional look and colors and have taken on a life of their own in the NBA.

No longer are there just home and away jerseys, but teams have various combinations they use throughout the year.

Some X users seemed to agree with Kuzma’s sentiment.

“I’m glad an actual player spoke up about these jerseys. They should really get y’all’s input,” replied one user.

“Fr like what’s the point of buying a city jersey if it’s just going to be outdated in a year?” wrote another.

Nevertheless, at least one fan pushed back a bit on Kuzma.

“I agree for certain teams, but what nostalgia do the Clippers have lmao,” wrote one X replier.

Nike took over as the NBA’s uniform manufacturer in 2017 — the same year the company unveiled the City Edition jerseys — and the contract between the league and athletic apparel brand runs through the 2024-25 season.

Kuzma has a brand deal with a rival apparel company, Puma.

Nike launched a somewhat similar initiative in Major League Baseball in 2021 with the creation of the City Connect series line, though not every team has one yet.

Thus far, 10 teams have not unveiled one, including both the Mets and Yankees.
