Zach Wilson returning as Jets’ starting quarterback vs. Texans

Zach is back.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh announced Wednesday that Zach Wilson will be reinstated as the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Texans.

“Zach gives us our best chance to win,” Saleh said.

The decision came after Saleh pushed back on a report on Monday that said Wilson was reluctant to step back onto the field, noting Wilson went into his office and told him he wanted the ball.

Also on Monday, WFAN’s Joe Benigno said that Saleh did not like Wilson, but on Tuesday said he misinterpreted Saleh’s text and apologized.

Wilson, 24, started nine straight games after Aaron Rodgers went down four plays into the first game of the season, but he was benched for Tim Boyle for the Black Friday loss to the Dolphins.

Boyle was then benched for Trevor Siemian during Sunday’s loss to the Falcons.

The Jets released Boyle on Tuesday and signed Brett Rypien off the Seahawks practice squad.
