Zach Wilson’s biggest fan is commemorating his massive Jets victory.
Moments after the Jets sealed an upset win over the Texans on Sunday in Wilson’s return as the starting quarterback, his girlfriend, Nicolette Dellanno, posted a supportive message on her Instagram Story.
“Always proud of you 2,” Dellanno wrote alongside a snapshot from MetLife Stadium as green fireworks flared in the distance.
In his first game back since Nov. 19, Wilson completed 27 of 36 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the 30-6 victory.
With the win – the Jets’ fifth of the season — the team snapped a five-game skid.
It’s been quite the week for Wilson, 24, who was reportedly reluctant to resume the starting role after being benched for Tim Boyle in late November.
Boyle, 29, who was named the starter for the Jets’ Black Friday game on Nov. 24 — a 34-13 loss to the Dolphins — was relieved by Trevor Siemian in last week’s 13-8 defeat to the Falcons.
Before he was officially reinstated as the Jets’ starter Wednesday, head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson passionately asked for his job back.
“The young man wants the ball,” Saleh said. “He wants to start. He believes he is the best quarterback in the room, the best quarterback for this team and the guy who gives us the best chance to win. I’ll tell you the same thing I told him: I appreciate that he wants to play. I’m just not there yet.”
Saleh lauded Wilson’s second-half performance in a postgame press conference Sunday.
“The second half, I thought Zach probably played the best game of his career,” Saleh said. “… The timing and rhythm and getting the ball out to where it needed to get to, being aggressive but smart at the same time.
“… He was out there having a good time.”
Wilson said earlier this week how he planned to take a different approach heading into Sunday’s game.
“I’m gonna have more fun,” he said.
Wilson and the Jets will visit the Dolphins next Sunday.
It remains to be seen if Dellanno will make the trip.
She and Wilson have been linked since the summer of 2022.
